HOUSE IN SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS, New South Wales AustraliaClient: Peter Berman
Architect: Harry Seidler & Assoc.

This is my favorite Harry Seidler project. This beautiful home balances the two concepts I have in a very elegant way.
The roofing produces a sleek blanket for the glass walls underneath; but it is the balcony that I find most helpful for this experiment.
Seidler cleverly uses minimal bracing along with a cantilever system that allows this platform to hover over an amazing landscape. The cantilever system creates a spectacular effect whilst incorporating functional aspects. There is no wastage here, because without the building the balcony cannot function.
Thanks to this precedent, I have managed to find an answer to my problem. The cantilever system provides a 'free spirited' experience, but at the same time requires a 'functional' understanding in order to work.
