EUREKA TOWER, Melbourne AustraliaDeveloper: Grocon Group
Architect: Fender Katsalidis
Prior to this research, I was unaware that this building existed. Eureka Tower is one of the tallest residential buildings in the world, at 300 meters high.
The building boasts many records and feats; the windows of the top 8 levels being completely clad in gold is just to skim the surface.
However, it is something else that intrigues me to this building.
"Skydeck 88 is the only observation deck in the world that can thrill you with 'The Edge' - a glass cube which projects 3 metres out from the building - with you in it - suspended almost 300 metres above the ground!"
I find the Skydeck amazing; it is a fantastic example of 'free spirited' design. Imagine being in this structure, it would be a feeling that would be very difficult to explain and you could only do justice by experiencing it yourself.
The cube seems to be strapped to the rest of the building, yet the transition from outdoor to indoor is made seamlessly due to the glass cladding. As you can see from the photos, the experience would differ during day or
night. Light does play a significant role for this structure.
I would like Stephen Hawking's space to have a similar effect, but have some functional qualities also.
