Machinima Explosions

All three of the below clips have been made through Crysis (probably one of the best engines dealing with physics). What makes these explosions so 'significant and breathtaking' is the overall mass reaction to the explosions. The porosity between both man made and natural elements have been detailed in an extremely realistic fashion. What adds to the significance, are the variety of camera angles: from a skydiver's back to underwater shots!

Precedent Study

The Globe, by Bronwyn Oliver was installed at UNSW in 2002. I find it very relevant to the topic of Porosity, especially following Richard Goodwin's philosophy of "renegotiating space and creating space". Whilst not seen from the vista looking up to the eminent Scientia, it subtly positions itself as a form of landscaping, the last transition from nature to the glass structure that stands above. The following caption is from Public art at UNSW and can be visited at http://www.artcollection.unsw.edu.au/sculpture_walk.... It strongly assists in making The Globe a precedent for Porosity.

Located at the commencement of the grand processional approach to The Scientia, which crowns the longitudinal axis of the Broadwalk and The Mall, the sculpture formally completes the landscaping.

The artist drew inspiration from both the natural plantings and the architectural geometry of the surrounding environment to propose a simple yet powerful statement for the site. An appealing tension has been introduced to the entire precinct by the gravitational pull to earth and circular movement of the sphere against the soaring lift of The Scientia’s glass wings.

The sculpture was created using marine grade copper alloy rods brazed into position over a mould, following an interlocking vein structure that creates a spiraling effect from pole to pole. The sense of movement continues as the viewer passes and the opposing sides revolve against one another, suggesting a gentle rotation and truly, a globe for International Square.

Finals- Zhang Yin

This space interprets power differently to Slim's space. Here, there is a classical approach to the architecture. The many columns and arches that symbolise power in ancient Greece and Rome are brought back here in an industrial fashion. This assists in conveying the type of business we are dealing with, a resourceful industrial empire that has achieve much power and wealth for Zhang Yin.
